Glentoran Football Club earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Cliftonville Football Club in a thrilling NIFL Premiership match played at The Oval in Belfast on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
The game started at a frantic pace, with both teams creating chances in the opening stages. Glentoran took the lead in the 15th minute when Marcus Kane fired home from close range after a cross from the right flank.
Cliftonville responded well to going behind and equalised in the 25th minute through a stunning strike from Ryan Curran. The winger cut inside from the left flank and unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the top corner of the net.
The second half was just as entertaining as the first, with both teams continuing to attack in search of a winning goal. Glentoran eventually found the winner in the 75th minute when Conor McMenamin headed home from a corner.
The win moves Glentoran up to second place in the NIFL Premiership table, while Cliftonville drops down to fourth.
