UK Labour Party Leader Faces Rebellion Over Israel-Gaza Stance

56 Labour MPs Vote for Immediate Ceasefire

Sir Keir Starmer Calls for Lasting Ceasefire

UK Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has faced a major rebellion over his stance on the Israel-Gaza war, with 56 of his MPs voting for an immediate ceasefire.

Starmer had previously said that a ceasefire must happen "now" in the conflict. However, he has been criticized by some within his own party for not being critical enough of Israel's actions in Gaza.

The rebellion comes as the death toll in Gaza has risen to over 200, including dozens of children. The Israeli military has said that it is targeting Hamas militants, but critics have accused it of using excessive force.

Starmer has said that he understands the concerns of his MPs, but he believes that a ceasefire is the best way to end the violence.

"We need to stop the fighting now, and we need to find a lasting solution to this conflict," Starmer said.

The Labour Party is traditionally pro-Palestinian, but Starmer has been accused of moving the party to a more pro-Israel position.

The rebellion is a sign of the growing division within the Labour Party over the issue of Israel and Palestine.
