Rangnick to Leave Schalke After Failing to Save Club
Former Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig Boss Aided Club to First Major Trophy
Eight Months Into Second Spell, Rangnick Departs
Ralf Rangnick has announced he will step down as FC Schalke 04 coach at the end of the season. The decision comes after eight months into his second spell with the club, which had brought his first major trophy.
Rangnick, a former boss of Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, helped Schalke to DFB-Pokal glory in his first spell in charge. However, he has been unable to replicate that success this time around, with the club languishing in mid-table in the Bundesliga.
The 63-year-old said he had made the decision to leave after "careful consideration." He said he believes it is the best thing for the club moving forward.
Schalke are now on the lookout for a new manager. They will hope to find someone who can help them push on up the Bundesliga table and challenge for trophies once again.
